Clinical Examination (OSCE)
Structure of the OSCE
The Primary OCSE examination comprises of up to 18 stations to be completed in approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. The results from 16 of the 18 stations will be calculated towards to total score. The current stations include:
- Resuscitation
- Technical skills
- Anatomy (general procedure)
- History-taking
- Physical examination
- Communication skills
- Anaesthetic equipment
- Monitoring equipment
- Measuring equipment
- Anaesthetic hazards
- Interpretation of x-rays
Primary FRCA OSCE marking system
The marks for 16 of the 18 stations are calculated towards the final score. Each station is marked out of 20 with the pass mark for each station determined by the examiners prior to the Primary FRCA OSCE examination.
Additional stations may be added to test new questions; however neither the candidates nor the examiners will be made aware of this. These additional stations are not marked and do not affect the candidate's final score.
